Was the sliding nerf enough in the Black Ops Cold War…

Treyarch seems to have everything under control when it comes to this Call of Duty: Cold War of the Black Ops Beta. Since the PlayStation 4 exclusive beta last weekend, the developers have released several patches to improve various aspects of the game. In one of the most recent updates, the controversial slide mechanic was shredded pretty badly. During the first weekend, players were seen flying around the map while sliding rather than sprinting. Obviously, this was not intended, so the patch tried to correct this. The question is, has Treyarch done enough?

The new sliding mechanic in Black Ops Cold War

If you didn’t play the first weekend of the beta, you might not know how bad the slide was. Essentially, players have found a way to move around the map without breaking their sliding pattern. This resulted in sprinting and walking being the secondary method of movement that is completely backwards.

To correct this, Treyarch decided to apply a few nerfs to the slide for the second weekend of the beta. The following has been refined according to the official patch notes:

Reduced the speed of the initial glide pulse and shortened the glide time slightly.

  • During the PS4 beta, we found that gamers were too reliant on sliding fast or engaging in tight spaces, making it difficult to target gamers outdoors. Our goal is for the glide to act as a smooth transition to cover, flight, or transition to a crouched position. The changes this weekend results in a faster slide that better fits our goals for the mechanic.

At first, the fans were overjoyed that this Nerf got away with it. Slipping was a real problem and it seemed to be fixed with this patch. However, players are still finding ways to abuse the mechanic on the second weekend of beta. While it’s not as bad as it was before, Treyarch may want to investigate additional nerfs to make sure the mechanic doesn’t turn into crutches for movement purposes. Perhaps further reducing the slide duration could help resolve the problem.
