PMCO, PMPL, Higher Prize Pool and More

Will this year might be saddening as the COVID-19 pandemic has halted much of LAN gaming, Tencent Games has enormous plans for PUBG Mobile in 2021. At the recently held Esports Awards Expo, the global esports director of PUBG Mobile at Tencent Games James Yang delivered a keynote speech briefing the attendees regarding the developers’ plans for the esports side of the online multiplayer battle royale title.

The tournament structure for 2021 will be very much similar to that of the previous year. Tencent will host two seasons of PUBG Mobile Club Open (PMCO) and PUBG Mobile Pro League (PMPL) followed by a PUBG Mobile Global Championship (PMGC) at the end of the year.

Besides this, Tencent Games intends to host an international invitational event in the summer of 2021. The top teams from PMCO will advance to PMPL and the best teams from latter shall proceed to PMGC which will be held at the tail end of the upcoming year.

While Tencent has a fully functional studio in the capital city of esports – Katowice, the game will be getting a couple of new “really advanced” and even bigger studios in 2021. The studios will be fully operational by mid-2021, however, the locations haven’t been revealed as of yet.

Several new regions and countries have been added to the list of PUBG Mobile Club Open (PMCO) and PUBG Mobile Pro League (PMPL).

  • Mexico

The 7 newly added regions for PMPL:

  • Turkey
  • Arabia
  • CIS
  • Western Europe
  • North America
  • Latin America
  • Brazil

Talking about the prize pool, Yang asserted that the prize pool for the following year will be huge. The exact figures will be unveiled at PUBG Mobile Global Championship (PMGC) which will begin later this week from November 24. He also asserted that the prize pool has doubled every year and going by the probability, the prize pool for PUBG Mobile in 2021 could be as high as $10 million.
