After going 2-0 in the first two days, G2 will face one of the strongest teams at Worlds 2023: LCK #1 seed Gen.G Esports.
Worlds 2023 Swiss Stage – G2 vs Gen.G – October 21, 11:00 CET
After two days of the Swiss stage, only four teams are still undefeated. And after Day 3, two of them will be advancing to the Quarterfinals. With JDG and LNG going up against each other in the other match, the two #1 seeds from LEC and LCK will contend for the second spot.
G2 comes from a messy victory against Weibo Gaming. It was one of the bloodiest matches at Worlds so far, with the two teams scoring almost 50 kills in a little over 38 minutes. Weibo had the initial lead but G2 managed to come back with a few great teamfights. After various tries to end the game, G2 finally managed to break WBG’s nexus and get the win. It wasn’t easy, but the European team getting two wins shows there is potential.
Gen.G, on the other hand, took a convincing win against T1, proving they are still the best Korean team. Thanks to some exceptional teamfighting, they were able to build a lead and manage it until they destroyed T1’s base in less than half an hour. If Gen.G wins against G2, their only test left would be the LPL teams.

Peyz vs Hans Sama and Chovy vs Caps – the battle of carries
G2 and Gen.G’s hopes of victory will be on their respective carries in the mid and bottom lane. Both teams have incredible players with the ability to take over the games if given the chance. Going into this series, both G2 and Gen.G need to make sure the opponent doesn’t get to snowball hard or they will become unstoppable.
Both jungle and support will have to do a great job at covering each other and making sure they need to take the right fights. Jungle proximity toward objectives will be key: Gen.G is quite good at getting control of dragons so G2 must prevent them from picking up early drakes for free.
The top lane matchup can be interesting but it will mostly depend on the drafts. BrokenBlade played Yone against TheShy in their match, showing that the European top laner is willing to play carry picks if needed. Doran also took out the Rumble in the match against T1, and it worked out perfectly with the Equalizer being a constant threat in every fight. Keep an eye on those two as they can swing the needle as well.
With that in mind, though, it’s probably going to be in Gen.G’s favor. G2 showed a bit of messy moments against WBG which will be punished more by a team like Gen.G. It would be definitely insane if G2 were to take the series, but all stars must align, and the odds of seeing that happening aren’t that high. Regardless, G2 will be fighting a close series with the LCK team.
Prediction: G2 1 – 2 Gen.G
