Literally anyone can get involved with Fortnite competitive events. How to get into competitive Fortnite can be as simple as selecting a game mode! Although, taking part in Fortnite esports in a way where you can actually compete? That’s a bit different.

Epic holds regular events but they each feature different formats. Players will have to find the right game mode for them. Then, there are the differences in rule sets between the standard game and competitive. Seasoned pros are often in these same lobbies, you’ll need to have gotten better at Fortnite first if you want to stand a chance.

If you’re looking for how to get into competitive Fortnite, then this is everything you need to know.

How to Get into Fortnite Competitive

Fortnite is one of the most open esports. This isn’t a league where you need an organized team with a name and entry fees to even compete. How to get into competitive Fortnite is simple, just pick the right game playlist. When a tournament is running Epic has a small notice under the proper mode, just select this and you can take part in it.

Outside of tournament times, click on the compete tab to see the list of upcoming events. Then you can make sure you’re around for the tournament you want to check.

Fortnite competitive events are open to anyone, but you need a few conditions to be met. The first is to have multi-factor authentication turned on in your Epic account. The other is to reach the right part of Fortnite Ranked. Different tournaments have different minimum ranks to take part so double check for your chosen event.

Format – Which of the Fortnite Competitive Events is for you?

Epic runs tons of tournaments throughout the year. At the highest level, there’s the FNCS and its end-of-year LAN where the very best Fortnite players all compete together. However, there are lower-tier tournaments running every week. These are all of the major events you’ll see as you learn how to get into competitive Fortnite.

  • Mix Up Mondays – Casual tournament with varied rule sets
  • Solo Victory Cups – Solo events, with cash prizes for Victory Royales.
  • Cash Cups – Standard competitive format events, but played as a one-off.
  • FNCS – The seasonal top-level tournament, with huge cash prizes.
  • Pop-Up Tournaments – Short-term events, often held to celebrate new skins or crossovers.

Most of these utilise a Duos or Trios format. However, there are the Solo Cups which give you the chance to play independently too. Tournaments can have slightly different scoring too.

Choose the Right Tournament

  • you might not be FNCS-ready, but cash cups can be a great alternative which isn’t always populated with the very best players.
