S2G are the new PUBG Mobile Champions, dominating PMGC Finals 2022

The PUBG Mobile Global Championship (PMGC) 2022 Grand Finals over the past weekend. Turkey’s S2G Esports were leading the points table as soon as kick-off, as both the Turkish and Brazilian teams took on the established favorites.

The PMGC 2022 Grand Finals took place from Jan. 6 to 8 at the Jakarta International Expo in Jakarta, Indonesia. It was the first PMGC since the tournament’s inception with a live audience present at the venue. Besides the title of world champions, the teams were fighting for a share of the $1.5 million prize pool of the PMGC 2022 Grand Finals.

PMGC 2022 Grand Finals: Turkish and Brazilian teams dominated the standings

The first day of the PMGC 2022 Grand Finals ended filled with surprises. To say that no one could have predicted the scoreboard to look like this is an understatement. Three teams from Brazil who have made it to the PMGC 2022 Grand Finals were sitting in first, second, and third places, respectively. Alpha7, with three top-three finishes and one chicken dinner, were atop top of the standings table, trailed by iNCO Gaming and Influence Chemin in second and third positions, respectively.

Going into Day 2, Turkey’s S2G Esports and Nepal’s DRS Gaming made their bid for the crown as the day ended split between them and the Brazilians. Into Day 3, we had a full back and forth between all teams as Brazil started getting hunted and hot dropped, while S2G and DRS continued uncontested. By the final match, there was only 12 points between Alpha7, S2G and DRS and one final round to go. One 15 kills game was all it took to have the Turkish team atop the standings.

PMGC 2022 Overall Standings

Not only are the top positions shocking, but the rest of the points table is as well. Chinese teams have traditionally been the dominant ones in the PMGC. The two-time and defending world champions, Nova Esports, had a terrible outing and could only manage 9th position. The team looked like a flicker of their earlier domination as they made questionable rotations and lost out in gunfights.

PUBG Mobile PMGC Final 2022 Rankings Standings

Even GodLike Stalwart and Vampire Esports, two other teams who were favorites to take home the trophy, couldn’t leave an impact all the way through Day 3. On Day 1, Stalwart finished in 13th, Vampire were a lowly 15th and the difference in points was almost insurmountable.

Four Angry Men, another Chinese team, stayed relevant and consistent throughout the competition, but never had a standout performance to take them to the top.
