The Free Fire World Series (FFWS) is set to return with its second edition of 2022 in November. The FFWS will head to Bangkok, Thailand for the first time to crown a world champion. Top teams from around the world will head over to Bangkok to compete across several matches in Free Fire for a share of an undisclosed prize pool and bragging rights.

Here is everything we know so far about the FFWS 2022 Bangkok.

After taking place in another Southeast Asian country, Sentosa, earlier this year, the FFWS is back in the region happening on Nov. 25 and 26.

The format for the tournament is likely to be similar to past editions. The play-ins will happen on the first days with 12 teams competing for a spot in the Finals. Top teams that advance to the finals where they meet the regional champions from around the world.

The FFWS Sentosa featured an immense prize pool of $2 million. Garena hasn’t revealed the prize pool for the FFWS Bangkok yet, although it will likely be in this range itself. Teams will qualify for the FFWS through different regional leagues around the world. Garena has said that these will happen over the next two months.

Thailand is home to the past two champions

It’s not surprising to see Garena bring the FFWS to Thailand in 2022. The region is extremely popular for the battle royale game and is also highly competitive. In fact, the past two champions of the FFWS hailed from the region itself. Attack All Around reigned supreme after a dominant show in the 2022 Sentosa edition. EVOS Phoenix, from the country as well, won the 2021 Singapore edition.

The exact venue for the event hasn’t been revealed yet. Garena hasn’t announced whether a live audience will be permitted either. These details will likely be unveiled closer to the tournament.

FFWS is one of the most watched esports tournaments worldwide

The FFWS is one of the most watched esports tournaments in the world. Despite being a mobile esports title, it eclipses popular traditional PC games as well in terms of viewership. The FFWS 2021 Singapore remains the number one esports tournament in terms of peak viewership globally (excluding China), according to Esports Charts. The tournament had a peak viewership of 5.4 million with an average of 2 million people watching.

Free Fire is unlikely to achieve this number again, though, because of its ban in one of the game’s largest markets, India, earlier this year. Nonetheless, FF remains immensely popular in Latin America and Southeast Asia. Thus, it would be interesting to see where the viewership sits in the FFWS 2022 Bangkok.
