Root Sports Northwest, the channel that will carry the majority of Portland Trail Blazers games broadcast in the Pacific Northwest this season and beyond, has now officially been added to fuboTV’s lineup of channels. The arrival of Root Sports on the streaming platform comes just days before the Blazers tip off in their NBA regular season opener on October 20 against the Sacramento Kings.
Now that Root is officially on fuboTV, Trail Blazers fans who are interested in the service can sign up for the free trial linked above and watch the Blazers’ final preseason game against the Golden State Warriors on Friday, October 15.
With both the Trail Blazers and Kraken’s seasons getting underway, fans have openly wondered on social media about how cable and satellite providers as well as streaming services might handle balancing games occurring at the same time.
“We will be offering an alternate live feeds for Root Sports Northwest, therefore, managing any live game overlaps.” fuboTV Senior Marketing Director Brian Harmer told The Oregonian/OregonLive this week. “So, in other words this will not be an issue for fans who want to choose between watching Kraken and Trail Blazers games along with Mariners or Timbers later in the year as well.”
But for many cord cutters out there, the news of Root Sports landing on fuboTV is still bittersweet. That’s especially true for those who are current subscribers of Hulu + Live and YouTube TV. The Seattle Times reports that those streaming services have no plans to be adding Root Sports to their channel lineup anytime soon.
“Unfortunately, notwithstanding the fans’ desire to see Kraken and Trail Blazers games, both are declining to carry the programming,” said AT&T Sports Networks President Patrick Crumb said in a recent interview with the Times. “I don’t necessarily see that changing anytime soon.”
However, Root did secure another deal at the buzzer to bring more games to more homes across the country with a last-minute agreement to air Trail Blazers and Kraken game programming with DirecTV, which was announced Wednesday afternoon.
