VANCOUVER, BC / ACCESSWIRE / February 23, 2021 / Alpha Esports Tech Inc. (“Company” or “Alpha Tech”), through its previously announced partnership with Irony Inc. (“Irony“), announces that it will be hosting its first esports mobile tournament in India on February 25 (the “Tournament“). Top teams from across India will be recruited by Irony to participate in the Tournament, competing in the mobile battle royale video game, Garena Free Fire® (“Free Fire®“). The Tournament will be hosted and operated on the Company’s online platform, GamerzArena.

Free Fire® is recognized as one of the most popular mobile games in the world, recently winning mobile game of the year at the 2020 Esports Awards and “Best Popular Vote Game” award from Google Play in 2019. In addition, according to a Sensor Tower report, Free Fire® gained 225 million downloads in the first three quarters of 2020 alone1.

“Hosting mobile esports tournaments exclusive to the Indian market is an exciting way for us to increase our footprint in this rapidly growing market,” said CEO, Matthew Schmidt. “Our partnership with Irony will see us hosting a variety of tournaments in India and ultimately allow us to showcase the GamerzArena platform to a significant number of gamers.”

Ankit Bhatia, co-founder of Irony, commented, “Esports viewership and fandom are rising much faster than any traditional sport in the world today, yet, as things stand, the biggest brands are missing out on India’s esports revolution. This tournament is our first step to change that – by bringing together teams, fans and data on a single stage, we intend to make esports more understandable to the Indian market.”

On working directly with Garena – the publisher of Free Fire® – Tushaar Garg, co-founder of Irony, added, “predicated on providing creativity, access and service to marquee publishers operating in the Indian market, we are excited to announce our first of many initiatives with Garena and look forward to deepening this relationship alongside Alpha Tech.”
