– After the Esports Racers, the second edition of the VCO Cup of Nations this time sends the Real-World Pros as national teams into a total of six races.
– Team Australia with Matt Campbell, Nick Foster and Bart Horsten in different vehicles on different tracks is the most versatile.
– A total of eleven teams with professional racers from different categories will compete against each other.
For the second time after its premiere last year, the VCO Cup of Nations on the sim platform iRacing provided exciting virtual racing action.
After only Esports racers had been in action in 2020, this time a total of eleven national teams of real-world pros competed against each other. After six races on different tracks and in completely different vehicles, Team Australia with professional racers Matt Campbell, Nick Foster and Bart Horsten secured victory.
The VCO Cup of Nations, hosted by Williams Esports, RaceSpot TV and the VCO, was once again a true test of versatility.
Whether GT racing car, V8 supercar, rallycross vehicle, IndyCar or F1: those who wanted to win the title had to change again and again within a very short time, leaving the comfort zone of the vehicles they know from real racing more than once.
In the “finals”, in which points were awarded over three races, Team Australia was unbeatable in the overall standings.
It all started with a 40-minute race in the Audi R8 LMS GT3 on the famous Le Mans circuit. There, the two Australians Horsten and Foster celebrated a double victory, and since only the best two drivers per nation per race were counted for the overall standings, they scored the maximum points.
Third place went to Dani Juncadella from Team Spain. The second final race was turbulent: On the oval in Indianapolis, many starters in the IndyCar Dallara IR18 were involved in accidents. However, after 25 laps the victory went to an Australian again.
This time Campbell won the race ahead of Juncadella and Horsten, who finished third and scored further important points for Team Australia.
The decisive final race took place in the Williams FW31 Formula 1 car on the high-speed circuit in Monza. There, places five and 13 for Horsten and Foster were enough for the Australians to secure the overall victory with 502 points.
Second place in the overall standings went to Team Netherlands, 35 points behind. Team Spain finished third with 452 points. The race win in Monza went to Phil Denes of Team USA ahead of Richard Verschoor of the Netherlands and Alex Palou of Spain.
The starting places for the finals had previously been decided…
